Mid-coast Marina Recognized for High Environmental Standards
Portland, Maine - The town of Boothbay Harbor is home to Wotton's Wharf, the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program’s most recently designated Clean Marina. In a brief ceremony on the wharf staff members were joined by clients and neighbors, as well as municipal and state officials as the official certificate and Clean Marinas flag were presented in recognition of the facility’s exceptional achievements in exceeding environmental compliance standards.

In order to qualify as a Maine Clean Boatyard & Marina Wotton's Wharf had to demonstrate a high level of compliance in each of the five program areas. To qualify a minimum score of 80% must be reached in each of the five areas. It was noted during the presentation that Wotton's Wharf had achieved perfect scores of 100% in each of the areas of concern - a truly remarkable accomplishment.

Participation in the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program is voluntary, with participating companies signing a pledge, completing a self-assessment and then inviting a verification team to inspect the facility. In accepting the award Jeff Lowell, President of Wotton's Wharf commended his staff for their efforts and diligence in protecting the environment. He also thanked Bud Shevenell a former owner of the facility for his support and encouragement over the years and told the marina’s neighbors from Signal Point how much it meant to him to be able to make good on his promise to be a good neighbor to them. These remarks brought a hearty round of applause and remarks back from the audience that they were very pleased to have Wotton's Wharf as a neighbor.

The Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program is sponsored by the Maine Marine Trade Association with funding from the Maine Coastal Program at the State Planning Office.
