Management Training Program Launched
Portland Maine - Susan Swanton, Executive Director of the Maine Marine Trades Association (MMTA), announced today the creation of a new and innovative training opportunity for recreational marine industry owners and operators and those being groomed for management positions in the industry. After two years of discussion and development she unveiled a course catalog for the Maine Marine Trades Association's Marine Industry Owner/Operator College (OOC).The curriculum was developed after extensive discussion with present and past marina principals and their perception of past, present, and future of marine industry managers. The effort yielded an outline that showed many principals felt they were adequate in the general technical operations of their respective ventures, but felt less than adequate on the 'so called' business side. The majority of the marine industries in Maine is small by nature and managed by entrepreneurs who moved from the technical side of the business into the management side. This opened up a whole new field of responsibility and in many cases, business OJT began the first day payroll and cash flow was linked. The education continued when a loan had to be negotiated as new business arrived. Education continued when numerous advertising reps arrived on scene indicating that without their service you would not prosper.
